Feeding the hungry press…

paul-gifDear Colleague,

get our latest flyer here…

FEEDING THE HUNGRY PRESS

At a time when the world is in economic melt-down and our members need their trade union to protect them from unscrupulous employers who will look to take advantage by shedding jobs and attacking terms, conditions and pensions – the last thing our union needs is for any of the candidates in this election to play into the hands of those who seek to undermine our union and the members.

Many members are angry that this election is being used as an opportunity, by some elements of the press, to attack our union, the members and the trade union movement.

Not only have damaging claims been made against our union in the press, links have been placed on at least one website that will draw attention to those claims and potentially cause further damage to our trade union.

Our campaign has not, and will never sink to, those depths. We will continue to concentrate on policy and offer a new and united way forward.

Members should not support candidates who are driven by personal ambition, a narrow political agenda, or choose to assist the press in attacking our union.

Members will soon have the opportunity to vote for a candidate who can unite the membership and take our union forward.

Don’t waste this opportunity

  1. I agree with your comments about the use of the press to allow attacks on our Union, and in effect, the movement as a whole. It’s a real own goal by those responsible, a clear demonstration of personal ambition and a long – standing thirst for power, whatever it takes.
It seems unlikely that you can win this election Paul – Laurence Faircloth has withdrawn and voiced his support for Derek Simpson, rather than risk instability and uncertainty by having an alternative candidate elected for just 12 months!
Why not do the same? We can then concentrate on getting the job done, the merger process turned into reality and electing a new GS for the whole of Unite.

  2. Dear Union Member,

Many thanks for the welcome interest that you have shown in our site and for agreeing with our comments about the use of the press to allow attacks on our Union. and in effect, the movement as a whole.

I agree with you that’s it’s a real home goal by those responsible and a clear demonstration of personal ambition and a long-standing thirst for power. Perhaps you would ask those responsible to do the honorable thing and withdraw from this election.

We believe that it is far too early to predict who will win this election. The members will decide the outcome in the next few weeks.

What we are offering is a credible alternative to the status quo, for the next 12 months, and opposition to those who would use the press to attack our Union.

    Best wishes and in solidarity

    Paul
